Toronto: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is calling on Ottawa city council to fight for low taxes with the municipal budget vote coming soon and a tax hike being considered. CTF Ontario Director, Kevin Gaudet said, "more taxfighters are needed on Ottawa council to help the mayor in his campaign to keep taxes low".
Mayor Larry O'Brien was elected with a very strong mandate to keep taxes low and to keep spending under control. City council should follow his lead and vote to keep property tax hikes no higher than the rate of inflation. The CTF urges all councilors, including Jan Harder, to lead by example on voting for low taxes. In the past Harder has voted for tax reductions and campaigned as a taxfighter. On her council website she describes herself as a taxfighter. Curiously, Ms. Harder now denies campaigning as a taxfighter and is now calling for a 4% property tax hike. "Ms. Harder and all councilors' actions will speak louder than words when the budget vote is taken", said Gaudet
Gaudet concluded, "mayor O'Brien and taxpayers needs all the taxfighters they can get. Ms. Harder calls herself a taxfighter. Now is the time to show it."
